Links v Farnborough Elite FC - SYL Premier

After last week's disappointment in the Cup it was important that we got back to winning ways and keep up our strong position in the league. Our game against Links was always going to be difficult with the condition of the pitch and the weather and it started poorly when we went 1 down in the first minute. Links got early possesion and attacked with a long ball forward. With it being early our defence seemed asleep and their big No 10 ran through and scored a well taken goal.

Joe M then equalised more or less straight away when James D passed the ball down the wing for Ryan M who crossed early allowing Joe to get on the end of it and level the score. Unbelievably when then went 2-1 down when a defensive mix up saw the no. 10 alone with the ball in the box and he cooley slotted it home.

With lots of possesion, we created a couple of good chances with Rutty flicking on a long Okey throw only for Tom B to just miss the target. Joe then levelled the score again just before half time when Tom B had a good run with the ball but was halted by a good tackle. Joe sensing a chance had cut in from the left and as the ball fell to him to hit it far and wide of the GK into the top corner for a great finish. Half time and the score was 2-2.

The half time team talked was all about keep doing what we are doing but try to move the ball a bit quicker and keep possesion a bit more. Our general standard of play in the second half was good although conditions made it hard to play passing football. Links definitely had a game plan and this was to spoil our attacking football and try to hit it forward as qucikly as possible. Our defence of Josh, Josh, Josh and Harry coped with everything that was thrown at us from this point and Callum added a bit more penetration with his physical runs. It was from one of these physical runs that put us ahead in the game for the first time. A long throw from Josh O'Reilly landed at Callum's feet who fully 30 yards out controlled it, ran forward a couple of yards and hit a great shot over the keeper into the far corner. Great goal Callum! Callum then turned provider when he played Ollie through with a great ball. Ollie, 1 v 1 with the GK composed himself and slotted the ball into the far corner for a great finish. Joe Monk then rounded off a good team and individual performance when he completed his hat trick by adding our fifth with a cool finish to round off a good team peformance in difficult conditions. Well done Joe and well done all for a good performance!
