25th September: SYL League Cup; Farnborough FC Elite vs Kingstonian FC (under 14s)

After 2 league games and 2 good results, the boy’s next match was deemed to be a tricky home Cup match against Kingstonian Youth Royals, a team from the Premier Elite league. This would be a good test for the team, or so we thought. The game started at a good pace and was being played in the Kingstonian half with a couple of good early chances not quite hitting the target. Joe M then put us 1 Up when he latched onto a through ball from Tom B to beat the keeper with a good finish lobbing the ball over the keeper’s head into the far corner.  Missing chances seemed to be the deal of the day when another good couple of chances went begging. Callum continued where he left of last week by grabbing the second goal when he played a 1-2 with Tom B for the ball to fall onto his left foot. Without thought he put his laces through it for a fine finish to put us 2-0 to the good.

Ollie made amends for a couple of earlier missed chances to score our third when he was put through by Scott B to finish well. The top goal scorer table is certainly hotting up at this early stage. With half time approaching and with Ryan’s first good run with the ball; he shot only for the GK to pull off a good save. Unfortunately for Kingstonian the rebound fell to Joe M who calmly put us 4-0 to the good as the half time whistle blew.

The half time team talk consisted of raising the tempo of the game by winning the ball early, use the space down the wings more and FINISHING in front of goal. The 2nd half started as the first half finished with the majority of the game being played in the opposition half. Goal number 5 could have been scored by a number of people when Harry S shot only for the GK to save, the ball fell to Ollie who struck it well only to hit the post before Joe Monk followed up to score his hat trick. WELL DONE JOE. At this point I feel it’s important to mention the goalkeepers and defence (including 2 centre midfield players) who were fantastic and composed in all this goal scoring and all looked very self assured. Ollie then grabbed a brace when Scott and Ryan played a good 1-2 and with Ryan just loosing control of the ball as he was about to shoot the ball ran on to Ollie who side footed his shot into the bottom corner across the GK.

Ryan then scored a great opportunist goal when he ran on to a pass from Scott B to lob the goalie from an angle with a great finish. The goals were coming in thick and fast now and the finishing was certainly improving. Tom B then got on the score sheet with a great mazy run through the defence and a casual side foot finish into the bottom corner. Goal number 9 came from a great run by Okey down the left; he passed the ball to Ryan who with a great bit of skill set up Joe M to score his 4th goal of the game.

The final goal of the game and the best goal of the game came from Dan who picked the ball up about 25 yards out, ran on a couple of yards and shot lobbing the keeper to score high into the net for a great final goal. The team performed really well against what should have been stronger opposition and although the finishing could have been more clinical its important that we kept creating chances and with chances, goals will come. A 10-0 win and a good performance by all, well done.

Stats so far;

Joe M = 5
